Golden Gate City is the four square miles of platted streets and canals between Santa Barbara Boulevard and Collier Boulevard, laid out by the Gulf American Land Corporation in the early 1960s and built up through the 1970s and 1980s. It is where much of the county's workforce lives. The roofs are architectural shingle on the older block homes, concrete tile on the 1990s and 2000s infill, and a growing amount of metal on homes re-roofed since Irma.
Golden Gate is inland enough that Ian on September 28, 2022, was a wind and rain event rather than a surge, but sun does what surge does not. Shingle here ages faster than the packaging says, and granule loss and curled edges show up at 12 to 15 years. Irma in 2017 took ridge caps and tabs off roofs that were already tired.
Call this site and you are connected with an independent roofing contractor who works Golden Gate. Once on site, the contractor sizes up the roof and lays out what has to be done.
Most Golden Gate calls are a roof repair on shingle after wind, or a stain under a 1990s tile roof that leads to the tile roofing underlayment conversation. When the shingle roof is on its second life, the roof replacement page covers the county permit and the choice between new shingle and metal. Golden Gate has no architectural committee, so that choice is the owner's.
The Golden Gate Community Center on Golden Gate Parkway is the county's hub for the neighborhood and the landmark crews use to place a Golden Gate City address. Fire and life-safety inspections come from the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District. Water and sewer came under the county utility on March 1, 2018, when Collier took over the old Florida Governmental Utility Authority system. Permits run through the county.
