Naples Park opened on November 4, 1951, as a grid of numbered avenues between U.S. 41 and Vanderbilt Drive, sold as small lots for retirees and working families. It was one of the first communities in Florida with paved streets, pushed through by the Naples Park Area Association in the late 1950s. The housing is a mix the rest of North Naples does not have: 1950s and 1960s block cottages with shingle roofs, 1980s and 1990s ranches under tile, and a wave of new two-story homes since 2015 with flat tile or standing-seam metal.
The west end of the avenues near Vanderbilt Drive took water from the lagoon during Ian on September 28, 2022. The rest of the neighborhood was a wind event, and the older shingle roofs lost tabs and ridge caps that led to leaks the next rainy season. Naples Park is not deed-restricted, so owners can choose any roof the code allows.
